Nungwi - The Boats & Reefs

The Boats

The Dive Centre utilises two types of diving boats. Fast and very safe 6m Rigid Inflatable boats which takes 10 divers, and which enables us to offer the diver the best variety of dive sites in Nungwi, safely. We also utilise a classical local dhow that take up to 14 divers for slower but more relaxed trips.

Our daily charter services include:

* Charters 3 times a day
* Night dives
* Snorkeling trips for non-divers
* Double or single tank dives

The Reefs

Coral Reef

Mnemba Island

North-eastern side of the island. Best wall dives on the island. Excellent for deep and multilevel diving as well as underwater photography. Numerous dive sites on all sides of the island: schools of unicorns, large barracuda, dogtooth tuna, white tip and tiger sharks, turtles, giant wrasse, and groupers. Good snorkeling dives.

Leven Bank

A stunning reef table in the world-renowned PEMBA channel and arguably the best dive on the island. Very large Napoleon wrasse, groupers, moray eels, dolphins, white tip reef shark, manta rays, whale sharks, and a good variety of reef fish. Fairly advanced dive with strong currents running at certain times of the day.

Mbwangawa, Chakatuni, Ametatu, Kitchafi, Haji

A very good range of reefs on the northeastern side of the island suitable for all levels of diving. Large variety of corals and reef fish including a resident turtle, schools of angel fish, barracuda, unicorn, parrot fish, blue spotted rays, moray eels and a variety of tropical fish.

Hunga, Sekina, Pembe

Excellent dives but subjected to currents as a result of tidal changes. Huge plate and table corals with a wide and interesting variety of fish including large spinney lobster, crocodile fish, scorpion fish, dusky batfish, Napoleon wrasse, eagle rays and barracuda. Excellent schools of game fish.

Most of the reefs have some shallow sections, which offer excellent snorkeling.
